This is computer network management work at the advanced performance level maintaining a computer system configured in a local area network (LAN) of personal computer workstations and supporting data communications hardware such as, file servers, printers and other related peripheral input/output devices, and may provide technical direction to lower level network technicians participating in such work. An employee in this class coordinates the provision of LAN services to end users, and monitors and maintains the network's operating and communications systems. Work includes interaction with vendors, contractors, consultants, programming personnel and the City's central computing agency for system problem resolution. Ensuring system security, disaster recovery and data systems integrity and availability is a significant aspect of the work. This class is differentiated from lower level classes in this series by the responsibility for management and maintenance of the hardware and software components of at least one local area network. Work is performed under the direction of an administrative or technical superior.

ELIGIBLE LIST: CITY-WIDE PROMOTIONAL
Departmental and interdepartmental promotional eligible lists will be established as a result of this examination. An appointment in any department may be made from either one of the above-established promotional lists as deemed appropriate by the appointing authority.
Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years after the establishment of the Eligible List.
PREFERENCE FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTS
Candidates who have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year prior to the date of the civil service examination shall have priority over all other people receiving an identical test score.
To receive such preference, candidates must respond to the question regarding residence on this application. This response will be used to determine eligibility for preference for residents. Documentation of residence may be required if there is any question as to whether you meet the residency preference requirements.
If an applicant does not respond to the appropriate residence question, it will be assumed that the applicant does not qualify for residence preference. Eligibility for residence preference must be determined by the date of the test administration. No requests for residence preference will be granted after the test administration.

IF A TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION IS HELD:Applicants will be evaluated and scored based upon their training and experience credentials. Applicants will not be asked to appear to take a scheduled examination.
Scores in the Training and Experience Evaluation will be based on documentation of education and experience provided by the candidate. To receive full credit for your education and experience, you should submit all relevant documentation including college transcripts, licenses, certifications, paid out of class documentation, etc. and provide a detailed description of your education, experience, and credentials.

High School/GED
The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who meet all eligibility requirements within 6 months of the application deadline will be admitted to this examination. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list but may not be hired or promoted until all requirements have been satisfied.
1. CIVIL SERVICE STATUS:
Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status and a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher.
AND
2. EDUCATION:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Computer Science, Decision Science, Information Science or a closely related field.
NOTE: Completion of an industry recognized certification or additional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.
AND
3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience performing network technical support work performing the full range of network support assignments from workstation hardware installation and maintenance to point of network access, installing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and maintaining network hardware and software for a Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN).
AND
4. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience at the full performance level in network technical support performing the full range of network support assignments from workstation hardware installation and maintenance to point of network access, installing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and maintaining network hardware and software for Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN).
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources, which has included the specific experience.
