Position Description
The Brand Storyteller is a creative and strategic communicator, adept at conveying the transformative stories of Musicopia to a broad audience. The role guides Musicopia’s public-facing storytelling through written and visual content across print and digital platforms, ensuring consistency of the organization’s voice, tone, and narrative across all channels and delivering communications that meet a high bar for quality, accuracy, and public trust. The Brand Storyteller will report to the Development Manager and be supported by the Storytelling & Creative Media Intern.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate compelling and impactful print and digital content (stories, spotlights, testimonials, press releases, e-newsletters) in support of programming, fundraising and marketing efforts.
- Identify, prioritize, and shape story ideas that advance organizational goals related to programs, fundraising, and community engagement.
- Exercise editorial judgment to ensure accuracy, inclusivity, and alignment with Musicopia’s mission and values.
- Edit and adapt copy for multiple channels, including but not limited to website, email, press materials, and catalogs.
- Create and maintain website content using WordPress, including event pages, news, stories, etc.
- Use and assist staff with the use of approved brand guidelines and templates.
- Working with the Storytelling & Creative Media Intern, and in collaboration with the Development Manager, create engaging monthly e-newsletters in Constant Contact/Salesforce and manage subscriber lists.
- Support Storytelling & Creative Media Intern in social media management in helping to curate social media content and schedule, and to monitor analytics to recommend improvements.
- Assist Development Manager with written donor communications.
- Collaborate with the Development Manager on the implementation of organizational communication and public relations strategies.
- Coordinate media outreach and monitoring, including keeping an up-to-date press contact list, collaborating with Storytelling & Creative Media Intern on press releases, and responding to reporter inquiries.
- Oversee photography, videography, and livestreaming of programs and events, refining and selecting media for public use.
Qualifications
- Proven writing/editorial experience with strong command of voice and narrative clarity.
- Excellent copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills, with a knack for concise language.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Adept at crafting content that is inclusive and culturally competent when writing for audiences with diverse and varied backgrounds.
- Experience with WordPress or similar CMS.
- Experience with Salesforce or other CRMs.
- Familiarity working with design and video editing software (e.g. Canva and Final Cut Pro)
Personal/Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, music, dance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related roles; experience working in a non-profit or mission-driven setting is a plus.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
