This is supervisory and administrative surveying work providing technical supervision to and directing the activities of a number of survey corps giving lines and grades in connection with water construction projects, and drafting staff engaged in preparing construction estimates and performing a variety of drafting and computational assignments. Significant aspects of the work are advising subordinate supervisors involved in supervising the field activities of two or more survey corps in the interpretation of plans and specifications and reviewing work assignments for efficiency and the use of proper procedures. The employee serves as an across-the-board assistant in directing a departmental surveying program. Work is performed under the general supervision of a technical superior.

Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years after the establishment of the Eligible List.
PREFERENCE FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTSCandidates who have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year prior to the date of the civil service examination shall have priority over all other people receiving an identical test score. To receive such preference, candidates must respond to the question regarding residence on this application. This response will be used to determine eligibility for preference for residents. Documentation of residence may be required if there is any question as to whether you meet the residency preference requirements.If an applicant does not respond to the appropriate residence question, it will be assumed that the applicant does not qualify for residence preference. Eligibility for residence preference must be determined by the date of the test administration. High School
1. CIVIL SERVICE STATUS:Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Water Department with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.2. EDUCATION:Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Six years of surveying experience
AND
4. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:Two years of surveying experience supervising the field work of two or more survey corps.
NOTE: Completion of a degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in Land Surveying, Surveying Technology, Applied Technology, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, or any discipline of Engineering satisfies the General Experience requirement on a year for year basis.
NOTE: Possession of Certification as a Land Surveyor in Training satisfies four (4) years of the General Experience requirement.
OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources that has included the specific experience.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
